Our boys baseball team fell to Nampa Christian 6-1 in the State opener. The Trojans scored 1 run on an error in the first inning. The Chargers squandered several opportunities early in the game to drive in runners in scoring position. The game would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the 5th when the defense had some miscues for CVCS. The Trojans hit just two balls that went past the infield but they were able to score 5 runs - most of the damage coming with two outs. That 6-0 lead would be enough.
The ending was less than fortunate. After Keaton Hoiosen knocked in a run with a single to right field the relief pitcher for Nampa Christian walked Nathan Wetzel to put two on with two outs. Micah Ferguson then came up and thought he took a walk on a supposed 3-2 count. He took off for 1st and Nathan Wetzel took off for second. The only problem was that the scoreboard wasn't accurate. It was a 2-2 count. Nampa Christian tagged Hoiosen out at third and the game was over.
Our boys move to the consolation bracket on the left side and our supposed to play at 10 AM but with the downpour that's been taking place here in Orofino since yesterday afternoon the consolation bracket for State may be cancelled.
