The Cole Valley Christian girls swimming team placed 5th overall at the District III Swimming Championships as they competed against top finishers Bishop Kelly (1st), Middleton (2nd), Kuna (3rd), and Columbia (4th). The Charger girls came out ahead of teams from Vallivue, Ridgeview, Nampa HS, Vision, Charter, Rimrock HS, Emmett, and Nampa Christian.
Freshman Hannah McHenry was 2nd in the 50 freestyle and 3rd in the 100 breaststroke. With the top 4 individual swimmers advancing to the State Championships in each event, McHenry will represent Cole Valley as a freshmen in both of her individual events.
Junior Madeline Matthews advanced to finals from the preliminary heats in the morning, finishing 8th overall in the 100 freestyle during finals. Freshmen Maddie Hess was 7th in the 100 backstroke, while freshman Tyra Cacka finished 8th in the 100 breaststroke during the final championship session. In the preliminary morning heats, freshman Natalie Morgan finished 25th in the 50 freestyle and 15th in the 100 breaststroke.
The Charger 200 medley relay of Maddie Hess, Tyra Cacka, Hannah McHenry, and Madeline Matthews finished 3rd among a tough field. The same four swimmers made up the 200 freestyle relay team that finished 2nd overall. Both relay teams will advance to the State High School Championships on November 8th.
Junior JD Jordan represented Cole Valley in the boys 1A-4A competition. He finished strong in the preliminary morning heats in both individual events to advance to finals. During the final championship session, Jordan finished 7th in the 50 freestyle and 5th in the 100 backstroke, just missing a state championship finish by one place.
Freshman Nickel Schroeder will compete for Cole Valley in the JV District Championships this Saturday, November 2nd.
