Second quarter finished with Melba leading by one, 24-25. After halftime, third quarter started much the way first half had. With Melba continuing to force passes and shots, the Chargers continued to fall behind. Third quarter ended, Melba 37, Chargers 28.
For the final eight minutes of the game, the Chargers fought back. Wallace, Fitzgerald, Kingery, and Bayless all added points in the form of either midrange jumpers or fast break layups. The Chargers soon came within two points of the Mustangs. As the seconds ticked down, the Chargers struggled to make their shots. Three points behind with fifteen seconds left, we fouled and sent Melba to the line for bonus. The Mustangs sank both free throws, stretching the lead to a five-point differential.
