A letter from Coach Jeff Blackman:
What a year. It didn't end with our goal of a State Championship but many many other goals were reached. This team did play better than several other CV teams of the past but we still came up a bit short. I can't speak enough about how hard it is to win a Championship. For two long days in horrible conditions, these 10 kids fought just as hard if not harder than any other Cole Valley team and still came up a few strokes short. I pray the lessons they learn from this will feed them for the many years to come. The fire burns hotter after a loss when the effort exceeds the ability.
Let this serve as my official resignation from head coach of both boys and girls golf for Cole Valley Christian school. I can't believe it has been 9 years since I began this process but my wife can. We are going to travel the US in a 5th wheel for at least a year before we attempt to relocate to the McCall area. I will return next year(2022) in April in hopes that you can secure us as State Tournament host. We are very excited about that opportunity and it is the main driving force for getting me back in April to prepare for it. (Or maybe it's that I can't stand 2nd place and want a shot at redemption from Nampa Christian!!!) I hope to be able to volunteer when I return if the golf team could use an old retired coach.
Seriously though, whatever comes of the future, I don't want to measure my success as a golf coach with trophies. I truly hope to have impacted the kids that I have come to love dearly and have served our Lord by leading them to Christ in some sort of way. Cole Valley has been such a blessing to our family over the past decade and I am so excited for all the changes coming to the school over the next few years. A very big thank you to all the teachers and staff who always greet me with smiles and joy.
- Coach Blackman
Coach Blackman has headed the boys and girls team since there existence. In his tenure the accomplishments on the golf course have been pretty amazing:
The school agreed to sanction a team and 2014 would be the first season. In 2016 we added a girls team and as of 2021, we have had 12 “seasons” (7 boys and 5 girls). In those 12 seasons CVCS made it to the State golf tournament all 12 times. Under Coach Blackman's leadership and coaching the team has finished 1st -5 times, 2nd – 5 times, and 4th – once. The only year we didn’t place was our very first. In those 12 seasons we were district champions 10 times!
Thank you Coach Blackman for your commitment to excellence and pouring into the lives of our student athletes! We know you'll still be around the program.
