The Lady Chargers basketball had a heartbreaking loss against the Melba Mustangs this Friday night at Melba High School. The game started off fairly well for the girls, with a quick lead of 14-10 by the end of the first. The Chargers had a great second quarter, bringing the lead to a solid ten points, but let off the gas in the third to make it a two basket game. The girls came out tired in the fourth, and lost their lead, making it a very close game. Mustang Kate Clark hit 3 huge threes that kept the Chargers at bay during the fourth quarter. While the girls fought hard to the last buzzer, they were forced to foul for the last few minutes and Melba made all but one of their free throws. The final score of the game was 48-55.
The high scorer of the game was wing/forward Anna Veeck, with 15 points. Following behind was Khoury with 8, and Cooke with 7. Desi Kingery and Lyndsie Krogh led with 3 steals each, brought up closely by Veeck and Fraas with 2 steals. Kingery lead rebounding with 8, Khoury next with 6.
The girls are now the 2 seed in their district standings, and they play Nampa Christian on Thursday at home to keep that second seed ranking for the district tournament. This game also happens to be Senior Night for the girls, so come out and support the girls in their last home game of the season this Thursday, 30 Jan, 2020. Wear pink!
