Cole Valley Christian vs. Nampa Christian. These two rivals squared off for the first time this year. Nampa Christian entered the game 4-1 tied at the top of the conference and Cole Valley 2-3 fifth in the conference. Cole Valley’s Haydon Harmon started the game off with a jump shot to go up 2-0. Then, Hunter Gill added to the score with a 3, making it 5-0. Nampa Christian responded, putting up 4 points making the score 5-4. With some good defense, and a little bit of offense by both teams, the 1st quarter ended with a score of 10-7 Cole Valley. However, Cole Valley got in a little trouble with fouls having 6 team fouls by the end of the quarter.
Nampa Christian started the second quarter hot. With a 3 and a few of layups, Nampa Christian was quickly up 18-10. A steal and jump shot by Haydon Harmon, followed by a layup from Anthoney Boyle brought the score back to 18-14. Nampa Christian quickly followed with a 3 pointer going up 21-14. With 2 minutes left in the half, Cole Valley took back the lead going up 22-21. With multiple free throws made by both teams and a layup by the Nampa Christian the end score of the half was 25-25.
Cole Valley opened the second half scoring with a free throw by Garrett Smith to make it 26-25. Cole Valley quickly increased that lead to 36-28. Nampa Christian fought back to 37-36, but Anthoney Boyle with a steal and a jump shot made it 39-36. Cole Valley quickly increased their lead to 45-36 by the end of the 3rd quarter.
Nampa Christian put up 5 points to start the 4th quarter cutting the lead to 45-41. But Jackson Baker with a layup and Lakota Steele put the score to 49-41. A free throw by Anthoney Boyle made it 50-41. Unfortunately, Nampa Christian began to dominate the game. With 3 minutes left in the quarter they had gone up 51-50. Then, with 1 minute left in the quarter they were up 57-50. Garrett Smith with a layup made it 57-52. Cole Valley fouled Nampa Christian to stop the clock. Nampa Christian made both free throws going up 59-52. Cole Valley got the ball and got it to Lakota Steele who then hit a 3 pointer. 59-55 with 30 seconds left. Cole Valley fouled Nampa Christian and Nampa Christian made 1 free throw. 60-55. Cole Valley came back down and Lakota Steele hit another 3 pointer. 60-58. Cole Valley Fouled Nampa Christian again and the made 1 free throw. 61-58. Cole Valley got the ball and with 8 seconds left Lakota Steele hit another 3 to tie it 61-61. The score held and this incredible rivalry game would require overtime.
Overtime started with points by Lakota Steele again. He went in for a layup and got fouled but made the shot. He made the free making it 64-61. Then, Nampa Christian tied up the score with a 3 pointer 64-64. Garrett Smith with a jump shot, got fouled in the process giving him a free throw. He made the free throw to go up 67-64. But Nampa Christian responded with another 3 pointer, tying it up 67-67. A free throw made by Garrett Smith, and free throw made by Anthoney Boyle 69-67 with less than a minute left in overtime. Nampa Christian put up a shot with 10 seconds left and missed, but a huge rebound by Matt Dwonch gave Cole Valley possession. Cole Valley ran out time and won 69-67.
The Boys are now 3-3 in conference play and 6-8 on the season. They look to keep on rolling after big win against rival Nampa Christian.
