In a nail biter of a game, the Cole Valley Football team fought hard and pulled out a victory against the skilled grizzlies, with a final score of 26-14. With a rough start to the game, the boys had multiple bad snaps and fumbles, letting the pressure get to them. However, our defense kept them in game, allowing a time for the boys to calm down a bit, and step back into their normal play. But the Cole Valley defense could not shut them down for the entire quarter, after a false start moving the boys to 3rdand 14, we were forced to punt, allowing Fruitland to score the first touchdown of the game, making the score 0-7.
After several punts back and forth, the chargers finally got something going with a couple running plays from Seniors Obi Gee and passing plays from Seniors Connor Howard and Brady Frame, resulting in a touchdown pass to Frame, bringing the score to 7-7. Sophomore quarterback Carter Fortin threw for a total of 4 touchdown passes in the game. 7-7 was the score going into halftime.
In the second half, things began a bit rocky with Fruitland scoring, bringing the game to 7-14. The Chargers charged back (no pun intended) with a pivotal touch down on a pass to Senior Nathan Touchstone, putting the boys back into the swing of things, taking us to 14-14. Our defense caused another punt, giving the chargers the ball back. Bringing the ball down again, Fortin threw a lateral pass to Howard who ran for a 15-yard touchdown, bringing the score to 20-14.
In the final minutes of the game, our defense came out strong, the boys putting a lot of pressure on the grizzlies, with a declined holding call bringing them to a fourth down, forcing a punt. With 3 minutes left, Carter passed the ball to Brady, who, with a phenomenal catch, scored the final touchdown of the game, putting the nail in the coffin, at a final score of 26-14.
The boys have a bye week this upcoming weekend, but play Friday, September 27 @ Melba high school, which will surely be an exciting game. Come out and support the charger boys in their first conference game, this is not a season of Cole Valley Football you want to miss!
